Silver will tarnish, it reacts to oxygen and sulfur in the air, it also reacts to cosmetics and perfumes on our skin and hair. It is a completely normal and natural reaction.
So how do we stop this and keep your jewellery sparkling clean?
Silver jewellery remains at its shiny best when worn daily, allow saying this chemicals like chlorine, salt and household cleaners will tarnish silver. So, take it off before swimming, showering and doing household chores. Direct sunlight also causes tarnishing (and tan lines) so also good to remove before sunbathing.
Keep your jewellery in a clean dry air-tight bag or box. You can also place a piece of chalk, a packet of activated charcoal, or a pack of silica gel in the storage area to minimize tarnish.
For best results clean jewellery using ‘Silver cleaning dip,’ (even if it has gold detail on it) make sure to follow instructions and rinse well in cold water after dipping and gently pat dry with a soft cloth. Gently rub highly polished areas with a jeweller’s cloth.
